Brownie Troop 8180 recently delivered a generous donation of games to The Children's Room at Hedberg Public Library!
The Troop, including members Addie, Elena, Ensley, Lexa, Parker, Rainbow, and Valkyrie, has been working on and has now completed its Brownie Quest Journey. In their Journey, they had to learn about and earn three keys which each focus on a different leadership skill: The Discovery Key, The Connect Key, and the Take Action Key. They then earned a badge for each key and an award badge for fully completing their journey.
For the Take Action Key, the girls needed to identify a community need that matters to them and plan a Take Action project that will make a difference. They spent a couple hours brainstorming different needs in our community and what they would be able to accomplish themselves. They then took a vote amongst themselves and decided on helping the Hedberg Public Library. All of the girls are library users themselves and were excited to help out HPL.
When discussing how the library could possibly use their help, they discussed that they may need more games for kids their age to play with when they visit HPL. They then put a lot of thought into what games to get, and mainly focused their attention on getting games and puzzles that could be played by just one person, and a few that would need multiple people to play. The Troop used funds that they themselves had raised to purchase new games for the library, and the girls are excited to provide new options for kids their age to play with when visiting the library.
Troop 8180 leaders Brittany, Jennifer, and I are really proud of the work the girls did during this Journey. Not only with how they decided they could make a difference for kids their age and helping the library, but also what they thought of for helping other areas of our community. They have some great ideas on how to help elsewhere in our community in the future!
The Children’s Room at HPL will use the games that were donated as in-room toys where children can come in and play with when visiting HPL. These games will not be available for checkout, but the library does have its own collection of toys, games, and puzzles available for checkout and in-home use. We in The Children's Room are extremely thankful to receive these games from the girls and appreciate their input on what games are fun for them and their peers to play. We are excited to see the smiles on all the kids faces when playing these new games!
