Women's History Month:

Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

In 1980 the National Women's History Project lead a coalition that lobbied Congress to create Women's History Week. Later in 1987 this was expanded to Women's History Month, which is celebrated across the US and is now managed by the National Women's History Alliance. As with other marginalized groups, women were often left out and underrepresented in history which perpetuated the thinking that women did nothing of importance historically and narrowed the perception of what women have done in the past.

Today, Women's History Month aims to educate the public about the historical contributions of women, focusing on a theme each year. This year's theme is "Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion."
