Recently refreshed Memory Activity Kits are available for patron checkout. Created for individuals with memory loss or dementia, the kits are designed to engage the mind, body, and spirit, as well as stimulate memories and enhance interaction with others.
Each backpack is assembled around a different theme, including tools, cat, dog, patriotic, TV/movies, farm life, homestead, games, travel, and baby. Some include activities intended just for the individual with memory loss, while others include activities for that individual and their care partner to use cooperatively. As part of HPL's Library of Things, the kits are available for a three-week checkout and may be placed on hold.
The Memory Activity Kits are a complement to our monthly, themed Memory Cafés, a partnership with the Rock County Aging & Disability Resource Center. A Memory Café is a social gathering for individuals who are experiencing early-stage memory loss or dementia and a family member, friend, or a care partner. They provide a safe and welcoming space to connect, find support, and enjoy a sense of community and purpose.
