Hedberg Public Library (HPL) and Rock Valley Community Program (RVCP) have partnered to expand the library’s materials delivery program, Hedberg@Home.
Hedberg@Home, supported by volunteers, provides free, regular home delivery of library materials to patrons and caregivers in the Janesville area who, for reasons such as health, age, physical condition, lack of transportation, are unable to visit the library. Any Janesville facility without a rotating collection of materials may also apply for the service.
Recently, a RVCP resident with transportation barriers reached out to HPL’s Programming Librarian, Amy Christian, to apply for book delivery. “I jumped at the chance to be able to provide the Hedberg@Home services to him,” Amy says. RVCP provides transitional and supportive housing and addiction and mental health treatment services to adults in Rock County.
Knowing that there were more residents at RVCP that might benefit from receiving regular library deliveries, Amy shared details of Hedberg@Home with RVCP staff, including Cortney Bloyer, RVCP’s Residential Office Manager. “We talked about the needs that RVCP residents had and how the library might help. Those discussions lead to setting the facility up to have their first delivery on May 15,” Amy reports.
“We are excited about the partnership and the opportunity to add value to the lives of the residents.”
“Building community through partnerships like this is central to our mission at Hedberg Public Library,” says Eric Robinson, Library Director. “This is just one of the ways we continue to create an informed, connected, and engaged community through library services.”
Under the partnership, books and information will be brought to RVCP every five weeks for resident check out. Residents will also be able to request library materials.
