HPL Hops on, Helps out Walking School Bus

Neither snow nor rain could keep Ms. Megan from helping out with Janesville Community Center, Inc.'s Walking School Bus on Tuesday, January 6!

Adult and two children walking to school.

Started in April 2024, the Walking School Bus is designed to provide a chaperoned, safe morning walk for children from designated stops to Wilson Elementary School. Additionally, the program promotes physical activity, reduces the burden on families, and provides a little fun education along the way.

While most often found delivering books and smiles throughout the community from HPL's Bookmobile, Community Engagement Specialist, Megan F., walked with students and "drivers" while she read Jack and the Beanstalk in honor of National Bean Day. She then discussed the moral of the story with the group, and each child received a treat (jellyBEANs) along with activities to take home.

The Walking School Bus is hiring "drivers!" For More information or to sponsor, donate, or volunteer, email WalkingSchoolBus@JCCinc.org
