Hedberg Public Library's America 250 - Rock County continues on Tuesday, May 12 at 6 p.m. with March, March, March and No Fight: The History of the 13th Wisconsin Infantry.
Join Pete Skelly as he shares the history of the 13th Wisconsin Infantry--the only Civil War Infantry regiment trained at Janesville’s Camp Tredway. Soldiers from Rock, Green, and Walworth counties marched through Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas but never fought in any large battles. Several of their veteran members played a large part in post-Civil War Janesville history.
Skelly is a noted local historian whose love of history is contagious. Among his areas of expertise is the 13th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, the Civil War fighting group that never got a chance to fight—much to the chagrin of the troops. They spent most of the war cooling their heels protecting supply lines in Kansas City.
The America 250 - Rock County series acknowledges and celebrates Rock County's history as our nation marks its Semiquincentennial. Our history is America's history!
