A902b Paging in the Library

Policy Type

Last update: August 2025

Purpose
The library limits the use of its public address system so as not to distract patrons needlessly as they concentrate in study, or as they are attentive to sessions in the Program Room or the Woodruff Training Room.

The library’s public address system is used to page during public service hours for a limited number of situations including the following:

  • Emergency situations, i.e., if a patron requests that we page a person believed to be in the library, and describes the need to speak to that person as "an emergency." (e.g. runaway child, missing parent, known health emergency, etc.)
  • Library programs, closing times.
  • Issues with computer systems.
  • Emergency announcements
  • Safety issues with vehicles in our parking areas (i.e. vehicle parking violations, headlights on, doors open, accidents).
  • Paging of patrons: In-library patrons are needed at a service desk by library staff members (e.g. cards were left at circulation desk, children left unattended, , etc.)
