Salary $59,488.00 - $95,180.80 Annually
Under general direction of the Library Director, the Collections Manager is responsible for planning and implementing the procurement, cataloging, and placement of all library materials according to the policies set forth by the Library Board and in alignment with the organizational vision, mission, service values, and goals. The Materials Collection Manager oversees the administration, coordination, and operational efficiency of collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, and processing. Provides leadership, mentoring and management of the materials collection services department team.

Has work contact with library trustees, elected officials, community groups, employees and the general public.
Supervises: Acquisitions Technician, Cataloging Technician, Interlibrary Loan Technician, and Materials Processing Assistants.Essential Duties

- The Collections Manager supervises the work of the Technical Services staff and manages the Library’s ordering, cataloging, and materials processing/handling functions. In addition, this person is the liaison with the Library’s main materials vendors and serves as the primary contact for the Library’s integrated library system. Exemplifies the characteristics of a collaborative, innovative, and resilient work culture and models the appropriate behavior to create and maintain this work culture. The Collections Manager reports to the Library Director.
- Provides original cataloging for Hedberg Public Library and for the Prairie Lakes Library System. Provides copy cataloging for Hedberg Public Library.
- Oversee library’s collection development policies and coordinates implementation of the library’s collection policies and strategies.
- Oversees the library-wide selection of all print and non-print library materials according to the collection policy, prioritizing community interest and collection breadth and balance. Assigns collection areas for selecting, monitoring, and weeding to appropriate staff. Coordinates with other department heads as needed.
- Participates as a member of the Management Team and chairs the Collection Team.
- Develop the collection budget with the Library Director.
- Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures; reports all unsafe conditions and acts to supervisor; reports all accidents to the supervisor immediately whenever possible; follows recognized safe work practices.
- Performs other special projects and other job duties as assigned or required during regular and non-business hours.
- All employees may be assigned by the City Manager or their designee to perform duties and assume responsibilities that are outside the scope of their work duties when the City Manager has declared a City disaster or the City Emergency Operations Center has been initiated.
Minimum Position Requirements/Qualifications
The requirements listed below are necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in library science or related field is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in public libraries is required.
- A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience is required.
- Access to personal or public transportation for job-related duties.
