Program Description

Event Details

Hedberg Public Library is adding another service to the library to continue to support the needs of the community.  The new service, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) offers free tax help to low-to-moderate-income individuals, ensuring they receive assistance in preparing their tax returns.  The VITA program is a partnership between the IRS and organizations such as libraries.  All volunteers that will be processing tax returns are trained and must pass required certifications to volunteer by the IRS.

Registration is required for each appointment; you can register online or by calling the library at 608-758-6600 and scheduling an appointment.  This is by appointment only and there will be no day of walk-ins.  Appointments are limited and there will only be one appointment per household.  Appointments are approximately 90 minutes.

Every client will need to complete and bring Form 13614-C (Rev. 10-2025) to the library in order to have their return prepared.  Taxpayers may click the form link to download and print 13614-C or stop by the library to pick up a copy prior to their tax appointment.

The qualifications of the program are:

  • Below $67,000 gross income
  • Basic to moderately complex tax returns

You will NEED to bring with you to your appointment the following items:

  • Taxpayer's proof of identity, such as a current photo id/driver's license
  • All forms, W-2, 1098, 1099, and any other forms
  • Information for all other income
  • Social Security Cards and/or ITIN notices/cards for you, your spouse and dependents
  • Proof of account for direct deposit of refund (e.g. voided check)
  • Information for deductions/credits
  • Identification number for Child Care Provider
  • A copy of last year's tax return if possible

If you have additional questions, please contact Amy Christian at the library at 608-758-5835.
