We all deserve the freedom to read! Come celebrate Banned Books Week with a banned and challenged books giveaway. You're invited to stop by to get a free book and talk with librarians about the ways books unite us and censorship divides us.
Books will be available for all ages and reading levels.

Visit with the members of the Rock River Valley Woodcarvers and learn the skills of their craft on the first Saturday of every month. No registration necessary.

The Madison/Rockford VA Homeless Program offers assistance finding affordable housing for Veterans.   The Homeless Program has access to Section 8 vouchers specifically for Veterans (called HUD VASH Vouchers) who earn less than 50% of the area median income.  We also make referrals to several other programs, including Grant & Per Diem (GPD) programs in Rockford, Madison and Janesville.  We work closely with community agencies such as the Community Action Coalition and VORP, both of which can help provide application fees and security deposit assistance to Veterans with low incomes.  Meetings at Hedberg with Veterans generally consist of giving Vets as much housing info about their area as possible, while setting up a future appointment with staff to complete a full assessment to see which services they may qualify for. 

Second Harvest knows that the application process can be scary and intimidating at times.  Let us help ease that feeling by assisting you with FoodShare applications.  We can also assist with applications for healthcare and other resource renewals, setting up an ACCESS account, or with questions about your case.

Big Brothers Big Sisters will answer questions regarding enrolling your child in the program to have amentor as well as any adults seeking volunteer opportunities.  Staff can also assist with the application process and any pre-match training that needs to be completed before a "Big" or "Little" is matched.

This program will cover everything from the Fox sisters, often credited with the first major wave of Spiritualism in America to the Morris Pratt Institute, the first school dedicated to teaching Spiritualism in America, located in Whitewater.

The Elder Benefit Specialist helps Rock County residents aged 60 years or older who are encountering problems with private or government benefit programs such as Medicare, Food Share, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), SeniorCare, and Medical Assistance.  Benefit Specialists are trained and guided by attorneys who specialize in elder and disability benefits law.

Welcome to the most exclusive night on the social calendar: The Art Gala 
Originally known as the Flindenschnieder Art Insititute of Innovation, Creativity, Design and Exploration Benefit Gala, it is now simply known as The Art Gala.
The Art Gala is an evening of excess for a good cause, at least, that's what the excuse has been. Benefactors, socialites, artists, celebrities, and social climbers use the night to be seen in each other's company. The evening benefits the Flindenschnieder's extensive art collection. Guests are asked to dress to impress in haute couture inspired by any and all genres of art - sculpture, modern, classical - as long as it's stunning, expensive, unique, and often controversial it's perfect for the evening.
The Art Gala has not been without controversy. Themes have stepped on toes, outfits have caused outrage, and each year someone is publicly snubbed. The Art Gala is always a killer event, this year -- even more so.
The theme for 2023 is ARTrageous Fashion. Dress to impress & to solve the mystery.

Join library storytellers around the campfire for an evening of ghastly tales appropriate for ages 8 up to adult listeners (all welcome - tales will get scarier as the evening progresses - gentle listeners may opt out at any point).
City Parks and Recreation staff will stoke the fire and provide seasonal treats.
