JATV was established in 1997 by the city of Janesville as a local public access television station. JATV is broadcast on channel 12 in Janesville and Milton. The station offers programs that feature local concerts, speakers, non-profit organizations, churches, library events and more. Janesville City Council meetings are also broadcast live at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month.

The studio is located in the lower-level Administration area of Hedberg Public Library. The station manager is Judi Kneece, 758-5822, and production manager is Duane Brewer, 758-5823. The office phone number is 758-6618. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Volunteers can receive free training in video production, then check out video equipment to use in the production of programs for the station.

The JATV program schedule airs on the station, is posted in the library, is listed daily in the Janesville Gazette on the TV highlights page, and is posted on the JATV Web site at www.jatv.org.

The Friends of JATV 12 is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and expanding educational and informative programs on the station. Full membership information is available on the JATV Web site at www.jatv.org or by calling 758-5822.

Library Programs on JATV

The library offers many educational and entertaining programs for adults and children in our program room. All programs are free and open to the public.

The Nancy B. Parker Endowment Fund sponsors about 15 adult programs each year on such topics as history, nature, hobbies, art and literature. Parker programs are held in the fall, winter and early spring.

The Children's Department schedules family fun nights, storytellers, children's performers and other special events throughout the year.

When possible, these special one-time presentations at the library are videotaped for airing on JATV-12, the local public access television channel. Speakers and performers do not always give permission to tape.

After taping, library programs are edited and within a few weeks they will air on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Programs are then put into a rotation schedule for repeat viewing opportunities.

There are four ways to find out when programs will be aired.

1) Check "Tonight's TV Highlights" in the daily Janesville Gazette. JATV prime time listings are included.
2) Watch the on-air program schedule that runs frequently on JATV-12.
3) The schedule is posted on the JATV Web site at www.jatv.org.
4) The next week's prime-time schedule is also posted on the "Library Information" bulletin board in the library.
5) If you are wondering about a specific Hedberg Public Library or Janesville community program, you can also call the Reference Department at 758-6581.

Another way to view library programs that have appeared on JATV is to check out the circulating copy from the video collection. To locate these videos in the computer catalog, use the performer or speaker's name as a keyword for your search.
