Exhibitor Information
The library schedules exhibits and displays of interest, information and enlightenment to the community. Exhibits endeavor to present a wide cross-section of topics that will appeal to varied ages and interests.
The primary purpose of exhibits in the library is to extend the library's role as a cultural, educational and community-centered institution.
Other purposes are:
- To promote library usage and enhance the library experience of patrons
- To showcase original art by area artists, both emerging and established
- To display collections and other items of artistic, historical, cultural, educational and/or leisure content
- To provide information about community groups engaged in educational, cultural, intellectual or charitable activities
Exhibits that primarily enhance a business or that present only one side of an issue are not accepted.
Art Wall
Two slatted walls serve as hanging gallery space for original art by area artists. These exhibits are selected on a juried basis by the Art Committee, which is appointed by the HPL Board of Trustees. An annual preview is held each November to view representative samples of art by potential exhibitors. Art wall exhibits are usually planned 12-18 months in advance.
Current Art Committee members are: Pat Mosher, Ed Thomas, Arlene Ledger and Roz Thorpe.
Watch "Meet the Artist" on JATV for interviews with artists exhibiting at the library.
Case Exhibit Area
This 18' by 18' space located between the art walls and the Service Desk is designated as an area for displays on free-standing screens, in cases and/or on tables. This space was created to expand display possibilities for collectors, hobbyists and artists who create three-dimensional works. Traveling exhibits and other special displays may also be housed here. Custom exhibit cases, table-top displays, and free-standing screens are incorporated, depending on the items shown.
Exhibits are selected and scheduled for this space by library staff in cooperation with individuals and organizations. View the current exhibit schedule.
Bulletin Board Displays
The first bulletin board case across from Checkout is occasionally reserved for displays with visual appeal that promote awareness of community or national events or topics. Free, non-commercial handouts may be included.
