Acute Flaccid Myelitis: The Story of a Boy, a Mysterious Illness, and the Community that Rallied around Him

August, a seemingly healthy eight year old, walked to school one day last year. Around noon, his neck started to hurt. Six hours later, he was paralyzed in three limbs. The next morning, he was in the ICU on a ventilator fighting a rare neurological illness called Acute Flaccid Myelitis. Grant and Stacy McNall, August's parents and local nurses, share their family's journey in an effort to increase awareness about this serious condition and to thank the Janesville community for its support.

Pokémon Go Historical Walk with the Rock County Historical Society

Senior Moments: Dust Off Those Skeletons - Saving Family Stories

Presented by Susan Manzke, Columnist and Author Susan Manzke writes weekly column in the Wisconsin State Farmer and Seymour's Advertiser Community News. She is the author of adult, middle grade novels, and picture books. One of her picture books, All the Queen's Crowns, won a Highlights Foundation scholarship and a Wisconsin Writer's Jade Ring.

There are skeletons in Susan's closet that's she's ready to share. Using her lively sense of humor, Susan will entertain by telling her personal family stories while encouraging everyone to collect and save their own stories. "Our family stories are slipping away. It's time to save the true history of this country. Start gathering yours today." Using her own family photos, Susan will help and inspire you begin your own collection of stories.

A Night at the Library: Nightmare at Main St. Manor

Join us for our 8th annual A Night at the Library Fundraiser for Literacy.

YOU'RE IN FOR A PECULIAR EVENING

This year, the Hedberg Public Library will become Main St. Manor, home to a beautiful library full of strange and unusual collections. The townspeople are getting a rare glimpse inside the haunted halls of Main St. Manor during the Festival of Remarkably Rare Oddities - featuring items such as an envelope licked by Hemingway, and Stephen King's dryer lint. But the item people seem to be dying to get their hands on is a cursed book once owned by Harry Houdini. Who will be the next to fall victim to its horror?

Guests at the Manor will enjoy a cash bar, hors d'oeuvres, live performances and an interactive murder mystery filled with an eclectic cast of quirky characters.

This event is for adults ages 18 and older. Drink tickets available for adults 21 and over.

After Hours Escape Room (Zombie Apocalypse)

For adults and high school students. Can you save the world from the coming zombie apocalypse? Let's find out! When you arrive, you'll sign up to be on one of five teams. Each team will enter the escape room at a specified time and have to decipher the clues and locate the airborne "zombie virus" before it's released. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest team. Before and after your turn in the escape room, munch on some snacks and have fun playing other suspenseful games, such as Pandemic and Werewolf. Registration is required and space is limited. William is a graduate of Parker High School and worked at General Motors from until it's closing. He served in the Army and the US Army Reserves for over 30 years. He currently works for the State of Wisconsin as a Local Veteran Employment Representative for the Office of Veteran Services.
